Wow! What a long day! I'm exhausted but happy. I got third place at the competition today. I had a great time! It reminded me just how much I miss competing. Usually, I would be VERY disappointed with third place, but this competition was all about bouncing back after surgery and proving to myself that I could get back into great shape. So, in that respect, it was a HUGE success! Prejudging went well, but my routine was sloppy. A friend of mine was actually in the audience for prejudging. We went out for lunch afterwards. My routine was much better during finals. After awards, I hooked up with another friend for pizza at a fantastic Italian restaurant. It was a welcome treat after being on a strict diet for 7 weeks. Now, I'm home, I'm stuffed and I'm TIRED!!! I'd better try to get some sleep because I have to work tomorrow. Good night! :)

I'm having a little dress rehearsal for the two-piece round of my fitness competition. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to do my makeup. I can't believe I'm only 4 days away from the big day!

It stinks being on a diet on Memorial Day. :( There was a fantastic spread at work and it was torture not being able to eat any of it. BUT...I'm feeling good and looking forward to my competition this weekend. My abs and quads aren't progressing as quickly as I'd like, but I'm still pleased with how far I've come. :)

Week 5 is in the books! I'm getting stronger everyday and I feel great! I'm still doing well with my diet although temptation seems to be lurking at every corner. My training is going well and I'm putting the finishing touches on my fitness routine. I only have 2 weeks until my first competition in 5 years! I'm so excited to get back on stage! I'm also looking forward to the post-competition grub session. :)

My nephew shot this video of me doing power cleans this morning. It's one of my favorite weightlifting exercises. I actually haven't done them in a long time so I'm trying to take it easy. I had to get a good workout in so I tagged along with my nephew and his mom at their gym before he went to school. I'm having a great time in Dallas with my family although all the bad food is really testing my will power. I wish I didn't have to leave tomorrow.

Week 3 is in the books!!! My training is going well. I'm actually starting to feel pretty good. I have a little more definition, my abs are coming back, and my butt is a little more lifted. Lol! 4 weeks 'til showtime!!!

Here's one of my favorite "clean" meals! It's a ground chicken patty on oatmeal bread with spicy brown "honey" mustard, romaine and spinach. I came up with this in the kitchen one day when I was battling major cravings. I wanted a sandwich REALLY bad. Here's how I made it:
1. mix 1/4 cup of oats and 1/4 cup of egg whites together, cook in a pan, shaping into two pancakes
2. form the ground chicken into a small patty and cook in a small pan
3. mix one packet of natural, zero-calorie sweetener into about 2 tablespoons of spicy brown mustard
4. add a few leaves of romaine and asparagus
YUM!!!
Hey... when you're only allowed to eat about 12 different things, you start to get creative. :)

Today was my recovery day and it could not have come sooner. I was feeling a little run down yesterday and lacked motivation to go to the gym (I still went). Abs and stretching... that's all I did today. Oh! And a LOT of cooking. I experimented in the kitchen a little and cooked a bunch of food to take to work Thursday and Friday. Here's one of the healthy meals I've been eating while I'm in training. It's baked tilapia, green beans and mashed sweet potato. YUM! Everything was bought fresh at a small produce store near my apartment that my brother told me about. It's the best! Everything is so cheap! Now, I have no excuse not to eat fresh veggies in and out of training. I don't think I'll ever buy canned vegetables from a grocery store again!

Week one is in the books! I'm super proud of myself; I followed my training schedule and stuck to my diet. I can already see and feel a difference in my body. My muscles are a little tighter and I feel more energized. Plus, my body is finally starting to get used to the 60-70 ounces of water I'm drinking a day. Working out again has made it PAINFULLY clear just how out of shape I've gotten, but I'm not discouraged because I know I can get back to my old self soon. 6 WEEKS 'TIL SHOWTIME!!!

I have to take things slowly while I get used to working out again. I can't wait to get rid of this sluggish feeling I've had for the past few months. Let's go!

Day 1

I just got home after a long day. I kicked off my training first thing this morning with cardio and weights. It felt great to get back into the swing of things. I told my brother, "I can't wait to get my body back!" Sadly, I've lost a lot of strength and flexibility, and I just don't feel like myself anymore. BUT, I know I can get it all back if I just stick with the plan. :) After working out, I had a long, slow day at work. I missed my train home by one minute and had to wait an hour for the next one. Ugh! Needless to say, I'm a little cranky right now. It's late, I'm tired, and I can already feel the muscle soreness setting in. 5 a.m. is gonna get here way too soon.  (sigh)
